These names as consequence of the use arise that by then it was given to the lands that they were property of gift Esteban Colón, that is to say splits it main of them, dedicated to the pastoreo of cattle or herds. CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS
As acts of celebration in the town are the following:
TRADITION OF THE MASKS
The Day of the Masks, that is celebrated December 28 every year in an uninterrupted way, is one of the traditional activities more emotivas of the Island. Its color and festivity do of the act, but the first one, one of them, as contribution summit in the culture of Puerto Rico. It is is a custom that has changed only in vestimenta, but follows its essence since the same one was imposed in Hatillo because of the foundation in 1823. It arrived like consequences colonizadoras since the tradition is base canaria. 0 be, that the Spaniards originating in the Islands Canarias, that themselves posesionaron of the neighboring ground, they bequeathed to subsequent generations their pertenencias cultural triadas of their ground, the same that today have and that we honor us in conserving proudly. The mascaras is the heroic representation when the malvados soldiers pursued the children by orders of the funesto king and her obsession by put an end to all the infants for of that way to be freed that a new creature governed in her ground and in all the planet. He is therefore that instead of the 28, Day of the Innocent, the children of Hatillo of it do the 27. Of that way simulates itself the persecución leaving the children a day before and the masks subsequently. Old the vestimentas were rudimentarias, grotesque caretas done of cardboard, clay or higueras, they concocted a body dressed of, rags, female or tiznado. Step by step has gone changing the modality of the fabric of cotton, then that of shine and at present the very exotic and costly clothes is the one that dominates in the occasion. Although in the town this day has been celebrated, the reality is that in the Sector Lettuce, where they converge the neighborhoods Capaéz, Naranjito and Hunchbacks are where with greater fervor always itself they have distinguished the masks. On foot, to horse and now in all kinds of transportación, have always done of the theirs. This people is confused among the my humble and all kinds of professionals. It turns out to be very difficult to distinguish which of them can be the person that is behind a careta done in metallic fabric and with a suit of a cost that can vary since $200.00 until $500.00 dollars. Although they ask money and they do maldades to its friends to achieve it, is not this a personal motive of interest, is only an incentivo to justify the maldad. Some cases isolated of needy persons are you considered like oportunistas for allegarse some money, nevertheless, they are included like part of the activity. Elegant and vistosos uniform with decorations and cascabeles very well intercalados by veredas, roads and highways since well early in the morning. Some after other they happen themselves of visits in the houses. Beverages, money and food are wasted in the homes in many of which friends and relatives unite to pass it better. Finally in the Plaza of Amuse is celebrated a festival around the 4:00 P.M. so that a greater quantity of persons they can appreciate them better and at the same time to gratify the efforts of the not foolish century efforts in the making of suits and carrozas. Then they follow all the participating bound for those places that were not visited to complete until hours of the night. In the 1975 itself televiso by first time all this activity and takes two hours passed through the Canal two (2)Telemundo. THE I GAVE OF THE MASCARAS IS AND TO BE THE CELEBRACION SUMMIT OF HATILLO AND the ISLAND.
